Who’s Winning the Battle Over Morals?

Red-state hypocrisy doesn’t help the cause of decency.

However painful to admit it, New York Times columnist Frank Rich is uncomfortably close to the truth.  In ‘Moral Values,’ It’s Blue in a Landslide, to be published November 14, 2004, Mr. Rich writes, “Everything about the election results - and about American culture itself - confirms an inescapable reality: John Kerry’s defeat notwithstanding, it’s blue America, not red, that is inexorably winning the culture war, and by a landslide.”

In his lengthy article, Mr. Rich catalogs the readiness of conservative media personalities, politicians, and media organizations to engage in and to support immoral behavior.  Some of this can be chalked up to the fact that we are all sinners who succumb to the weakness of the flesh from time to time.  Too much of it can be chalked up to value-neutral commercialism.

Mr. Rich, who is about as rabidly far-left as anyone in Manhattan, gives us a useful wake-up call.  Unfortunately, he is correct: the corrosion of moral values and decline of cultural standards continues unabated.

It will only get worse unless we can reclaim education from the liberal-socialists to stop conversion of young students to the religion of socialism.  In another generation, nearly everyone will have abandoned our moral and Constitutional principles, and the United States will have become another third-rate nation like France or Germany.
