The Future Triumph of Statism
City Journal contributing editor Michael Knox Beran describes the long-range strategy of Democrat/Socialist Party theorists.
Imposing unsupportable tax and regulatory burdens upon the economy, while enacting ever larger welfare-state entitlements is expected to precipitate ideological class warfare between the dwindling base of white, middle-class voters and black and Hispanic have-nots. The ensuing political crisis is expected to open the way for Democrat/Socialists to seize dictatorial control of the United States in a repetition of the pattern that brought to power Napoleon in 1799 and Hitler in 1933.
