Democratic Party leadership have decided to segment the political voter market and to prepare new advertising and promotion campaigns aimed at what their liberal wing call the Jesus-freaks.
Reader Richard Rivette observes that the Democratic Party’s leadership don’t seem to understand the nature of the market segment they aim to capture for their political product.
FAITH IS NOT A TALKING POINT
by Richard Rivette
The Democrats in the body of Barack Obama in June decided that talking about God is a good thing. Their leadership now actually is encouraging the use of religion and God as a good means on communicating with others and obtaining political concordance.
What is wrong with this picture?
Basically, they are now stating they will use faith, a highly personal and private matter, to make political hay. Great. They claim the religious right is doing this all along. Incorrect. Those of us (and I am no sainted Christian, Buddhist or Jew by any means) who believe in God, have faith in a higher force than ourselves and wonder at the construct of the universe, do not have nor use faith as a talking point.
We don’t stand in our driveways and talk to neighbors about seeing them at church so we can segue into a diatribe about how awful the President is, or how God is good to have around but check out my ideas for fixing social security. This is just as inappropriate as attending a funeral service to turn it into a political rally.
“Hey Bob. Did you see that choir perform at the stadium last week? Wow. They had a wonderful presence. And boy, wasn’t it great when we protested that illegal immigrants should have free access to every program we pay for with our taxes?”
Somehow the two don’t mesh.
God and faith are not talking points. Conservatives don’t use faith as a lever to start conversations about how to vote. They are simply faithful. Make that humble. They acknowledge as part of their core being they are not the end all of consciousness, they are not elite above others, they are not divine, nor are they going to lead without praying for guidance.
Liberals are now going to use God as a conversation starter. I’d rather they just practice in private and pray on it. After all, God does not exist for political purposes regardless of their perception. Once again, they missed the point.
Belief in God requires certain common sense agreements. In your life, you don’t conduct yourself in a manner contrary to what God has related to the world through various prophets. You would not, for example, condone breaking the law, whether one is an immigrant or not. You would not condone allowing children to become pregnant with no eye on the consequences. You would not allow underage drinking. You would not allow many other things that the liberal left would like us to because we are free spirits. According to most belief systems, while we have a right to choose our path, there are definite motivations to following a path laid out by God.
Interesting how we are free spirits, yet the most radical leftists don’t even believe in God. What exactly do they think a spirit is anyway? Search your soul Barack. God is not to be toyed with. No one has a claim either way to God’s message or an understanding beyond anybody else’s. God and faith are not talking points no matter how desperately the liberal left want to co-opt them.
They are incorruptible. That’s what makes God God. That’s what makes faith faith. Democrats need to rethink this latest strategy. God is not for sale.
