The President’s promised healthcare savings, which he says will obviate the need for new taxes, like the undelivered promises of new jobs under his stimulus plan, are nothing more than wishful thinking delivered as fact.
Mr. Obama’s pronouncements are reminiscent of the periodic contract negotiations in the 1960s between New York City and Mike Quill, the communist boss of the Transit Workers Union. The City each time announced that always-higher wages and benefits would be offset with savings to be implemented by the transit workers. But costs always increased, with no evidence of any savings.
Following the same pattern with its other unions, New York City went broke and defaulted on its debt.
