The View From 1776

Worship of Hedonism and Self-Importance is Death

Liberals see hedonistic self-indulgence as the substance the Bill of Rights.

They are aggressively atheistic, or implicitly so when they look to the political state for materialistic salvation.  They vaunt their own rationalism and presume that they are the creators of all they survey.  Many of them ridicule Christians and religious Jews as neurotics who “hear voices” in their heads.

More than 4,000 years of history, beginning with the Bible’s Old Testament, shows that this is not a winning hand.

  1. Hedonism is a winning hand, perversely, but yet a winning hand.

The View is a great admirer of Adam Smith. Smith told us about the importance of hedonism and self-interest, that through the 'invisible hand' those qualities transform and manifest themselves into acts of good for the whole of society.

Hedonism protects the individual from the State. The View is constantly telling us we should be protected from the State.

A hedonist, though, should be self-enlightened. Smith also talked of this.

  2. The pleasuring of the senses is to bypass intelligence, knowledge, history, and choose to allow glandular secretions to rule in one's life. Not qualified to rule.

The rejection of the mind, criteria, and powers of reason foretell a crash and destruction of the individual life. Odds?

Carnal rule demands self-justification and abdication of personal responsibility. Words.

    Testicles have no brains. Evidence.

Humans were created for Eternity - One place or the other. Choice.

  3. For me, quoting from the Bible is a poor and sorry way for explaining the modern world.

  4. Neither Turner nor Dawkins, nor you, nor any other loser, can come up with with criteria of the mind that is equal or superior to The Word of God, the Creator of all things.

But, after all, when does a hedonistic humanist liberal free-rider socialist gutless feeler ever need criteria?

    Exactly!

  5. The View views the individual as paramount in the social order. It should be no surprise, then, the inevitability of hedonism. Even the Declaration of Independence, which this blog celebrates, supports hedonism when it talks about the pursuit of happiness as an unalienable right.

The View is arguing against itself.

  6. MR. JEFFERSON ALWAYS ADDRESSED THE MIND - NEVER THE TESTICLES.

  7. Mr. Airth's comment, "Even the Declaration of Independence, which this blog celebrates, supports hedonism when it talks about the pursuit of happiness as an unalienable right," reflects an incorrect understanding of Jefferson's meaning.

Writing to Richard Henry Lee in 1825, Jefferson said of his authorship of the Declaration, the essential thing was,
