The View From 1776
A Divided Nation Without God
We are no longer “One nation under God.” The destructive blows of liberal-progressivism since the 1930s have increasingly left us a disunited, spineless rabble.
A couple of thoughts struck me as I read this. One is the war in Iraq. While many feel both opposed and supportive of the war, the major flaw in our political system was the lack of ethical behavior by our representatives and some in both parties were guilty.
One reason we have our system of government is for “war.” What I mean is that when we are at war, we depend on our representatives to work on the best way to win that war behind closed doors with as little as possible discussion of tactics outside those closed doors. This was intended and often violated because we have people who want to use the war and differences of opinion to win elections instead of win the war. The same reason the Constitution gave the Commander in Chief almost unchecked powers when the military is called “into actual service of the United States.” (not the President but only the Commander in Chief even though it is the same person it is two different roles in the Constituion and impeachment was the check on the Commander in Chief who could overrule courts but not on impeachment)
During a time of war, freedom of speech was curbed in the public sector as well as in the Halls of Congress. Our representatives were to work out the details and difference behind closed doors and then present a unified front in public even if they didn’t agree with it and after the conflict was over would denounce what was done. Since Congress had the power to fund a war and to declare war and to do other things they did have some checks on what the Commander in Chief could do in reality besides impeachment but, they couldn’t countermand things like the Commander in Chief’s decisions. They couldn’t tell the generals to disobey the Commander in Chief. They could pursuade him to do some thing different but, they couldn’t order him to. That includes wiretaps with or without a warrant.
The other thing is that we have the right to change as a society and that includes becoming a socialist nation. However, it was to be done through Constitutional amendment as we did with the 16th that really gave the Federal government a huge power boost, but not through the Courts.
While I disagree with socialism since I have never seen a nation use it that hasn’t suffered more because of it, instead of less in the long run, they have the right to make this nation socialist. They may not like it either when they really get it but, they still have the right to have it if they go through the Constitutional process for change and not the Courts.
Those were just thoughts that arose while reading and not really a commentary on the article itself.

They cannot give away what they do not own. Endowments are to be stewardized where they are: in individuals.
Transcendent Criteria denotes a stewardship higher than human opinion; an obligation to fulfill human value, nature, and potential by non-manmade standards, to the Creator. Yes, wrong can be done, but not via a premise of prioritized stewardship. By a priora criteria, we are enabled to envision failure or success. Universe-sized ignorance affords no such option.
The self-exalting among us can’t get over their very real inferiority complex and possess no substitute for their posture: self-justification of ignorant rebellion against the only-God. So be it.
