The View From 1776

What Are They Aiming To Do?

Democrat/Socialists talk about lowering unemployment, but their fiscal and monetary policies impede creation of jobs and re-hiring of laid-off workers.  It should be obvious by now that reducing unemployment is not their objective.

  2. Mr. Jay:

First, there's nothing new about "Fascist state corporatism." It was coined during the 1920s to describe Mussolini's version of socialism.

Franklin Roosevelt expressed his admiration for Mussolini and what he had done to regiment Italy. When he took office, one of the first major programs FDR instituted was the National Recovery Administration, which, everyone at the time noted, was modeled directly on Fascist state corporatism. When Mussolini was asked about the NRA, he said that, compared to Italy's state corporatism, it was much too harsh.

Second, I didn't link Darwinism with Marxism. The Marxists in the 1860s did that. Marx even requested Darwin's permission to dedicate a book to him. Marxists happily employed Darwinism's evolutionary ideas and its amorality (survival of the fittest) as a confirmation of Marx's historicism, the idea that reified history was evolving inevitably toward world socialism.

That, of course, is the view of American liberal-progressives, particularly President Obama.
