Historical Parallels

The Democrat/Socialist Party’s forcing passage of Obamacare via parliamentary trickery, in the face of majority public opposition, is in line with actions of left-wing elitists since the emergence of their secular religion in the 19th century.

  1. Thomas,

By "parliamentary trickery" I assume you mean by a 60 to 40 majority in the US Senate? The constitution was set up to allow bills to pass by a simple majority.

The trickery that has actually come to the fore is the conservative's new strategy of blocking any and all bills from a floor vote by filibustering. All for the craven purpose of making Obama look bad, irrespective of the needs of the nation.

  2. Parliamentary trickery refers to use of the reconciliation process to avoid the usual procedure of having to pass House and Senate versions, run them through conference committee, and then revote them in the final form.

  3. Thomas,

And why was the reconciliation path taken?

Because the Republicans refused to allow the bills to come to the floor for a vote using the extra-constitutional device of the filibuster.

The bills in question had the overwhelming support of the majority of both houses, which, under the constitution, is supposed to allow passage.

Surely it is a twisted interpretation to call an overwhelming majority vote "a trick."
