The Latest Climategate Revelation

Climate scientists withdraw journal claims of rising sea levels.

  1. Retraction is a regular part of the publication process. Science is a complicated game and there are set procedures in place that act as checks and balances.

In a statement the authors of the paper said: "Since publication of our paper we have become aware of two mistakes which impact the detailed estimation of future sea level rise. This means that we can no longer draw firm conclusions regarding 21st century sea level rise from this study without further work.

In the Nature Geoscience retraction, in which Siddall and his colleagues explain their errors, Vermeer and Rahmstorf are thanked for "bringing these issues to our attention".

About 25% of sea level increases are due to thermal expansion of the existing sea water as the ocean temperatures rise, and the remainder is due to the addition of melting fresh water ice.

It will be interesting to see what the corrected results of this work predicts.

  2. Mr. Jay:

"Retraction is a regular part of the publication process." Yes, in true science, but clearly global-warming scientism is not science. It's a combination of pagan nature worship and materialistic religion.

The only retractions have been blasted from the death grip of crooked climate "scientists" who have gone to extensive lengths to distort, manipulate, falsify, and conceal true data.

Your position is analogous to saying that a criminal caught red-handed is not guilty, because the law exposed his misdeeds.

  3. Mr. Brewton,

Scientists publish their results principally to be critiqued by their fellow scientists and to have their findings verified independently by others. Almost every advance in science in some way alters what had formerly been the "best" model. Newton is not considered "guilty" or a "fraud" because Einstein showed that his "laws" did not quite tell the whole story.

In the case at hand, Vermeer gratefully thanked his fellow scientist critics for pointing out that he had made two errors in his method, and is now revising his analysis accordingly.

  4. Verified how? By framing their theories in a manner that begs for falsification? Stay away from science. Your kind of ignoramus starts buying into things like eugenics, Marxism, phrenology, civil service 'reform' or (heaven forbid) Progressivism. You guys on the left got to stay away from things your are incapable of understanding. I.E. SCIENCE.
