    But we do not rely on Darwin for our current state of genetic knowledge. He had the breakthrough insight, but much like with Copernicus, who made ground breaking discoveries hundreds of years ago, generations of scientists have built on his work to advance the science. Because we have the Hubble telescope to see incredible astronomical events does not mean that Copernicus's "speculative hypotheses" were invalid, but we are way beyond them by now.

    The Chase book may have provided new insights at the time it was published, but surely the field has progressed in the intervening 75 years.
