The View From 1776

Follow Jesus; Proclaim the Gospel

Jesus’s commandment to the original disciples, and to every Christian today, is to be witnesses for the glory of God.

  1. I wish people would stop allocating Christian membership to Obama ... he is not a Christian by his own words ... see http://www.suntimes.com/news/falsani/726619,obamafalsani040504.article or my analysis at http://sheepcrib.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-may-not-be-muslim-but.html

  2. A Christian deconstructed? He's the kind who'd buy into it. It serves his interests.

  3. Thomas:

I am afraid this is goodbye. Your unvarnished bile, masquerading as "Christianity" is, at long last, too much for me to go on reading.

    Quoting you:

"However much one may lament the election of an apostate Christian steeped in white hatred and murder-by-abortion..."

    WHAT?????

You have the supreme gall and ego-centricity to "judge" Obama's Christianity. Who are you to judge another's Christianity? Especially you, who bore false witness against Obama in your many lying posts over the last year.

Then, ironically, you have the nerve admonish us to:

"live lives that are examples of the love God commanded us to give our neighbors."

What baloney! Look within yourself, Tom, and consider the evil of your own spectacular hypocrisy.

Cohocton? Methodist? What happened to your beloved Long Ridge Church? Did you bail out? After helping to trash that church, you have now moved away? Did they have a party for you, or did they just say "good riddance"?

    Jesus did not say,

"We must treat even our enemies with human decency."

Jesus said, "LOVE your enemies." And "Feed my sheep."

This you find impossible because there is no love in you, only a grinding hatred. You falsely accuse Obama of being an "Apostate Christian" with no evidence, other than a confirmed disdain for people with dark skin. You lack even the grace to congratulate Obama for a race run well and won fairly (and without the slander of the McCain campaign).

Look within yourself, Tom, and admit it, or you will die with your hate intact.

  4. Tom -

See! That last comment is what happens when we grant non-Christians (Obama) de facto identity as Christians, based on their word rather than God's word.

The biblical theology of the writer (Pat) is so selective it pigeon holes anyone who might want to respond.

Based on an orthodox and biblical understanding of what an authentic Christian is, Obama is not a Christian by his own confession. End of debate. Your giving him credence by your use of the term "apostate" opens the door to all kinds of problems.

Let him speak for himself and there is no debate and there is no place for pathetic exegesis to enter into the debate.

  5. Mr. Henrie:

An objective review of your own attitudes reveals an unmitigated bile against anything or any one not conforming to your religion of socialism.

Who am I to judge Obama's Christianity? Who are you to judge me or President Bush, or anyone?

It's utterly ridiculous to suggest that I can't criticize Senator Obama's pretensions to Christianity. I grant you the right to criticize me or others.

The Bible says that God alone will judge individuals' worthiness, but explicitly (particularly in the Apostle Paul's letters) requires us to judge the actions of those who bear false witness or advocate immoral behavior, both of which characterized Senator Obama's entire campaign.

You repeatedly in other cases, as well as in this one, ignore the points being made and create a straw man to attack.

There is no way that you can truthfully deny that Obama is steeped in white hate and murder-by-abortion, both of which flatly contradict the teachings of Christianity. The man attended Jeremiah Wright's church for over 20 years, where the "gospel" was hatred for whites and for the United States. He is an advocate of smashing the skulls of babies who are born alive despite efforts to murder them in the womb via abortion procedures.

You need to take a good hard look at your own self-righteousness.

  6. "Follow Jesus; Proclaim the Gospel"

Jesus was a socialist. Nevertheless, he wasn't adverse to the free market. He just wanted a blend of the two. That's the Gospel.

  7. David- Do you make it up as you go? First epistemology, then political science, history and economics now theology. What don't you know? You must have spent hours upon hours with Popper, Burke, Jefferson, Madison, Augustine and Smith as well as their critics. An authentic Renaisance Man!

  8. "You must have spent hours upon hours with Popper, Burke, Jefferson, Madison, Augustine and Smith as well as their critics. An authentic Renaisance Man!"

    I did!

Jesus was a balance person. If he were here today he would admonish those that think the free market is be-all and end-all as conservatives like you tend to think. It has to be tempered and mellowed by streaks of socialism here and there.

  9. How would He feel about the state? Or the nature of the human person and his relationship to the state vs the relationship of the individual to God? Please, expound.

  10. I don't talk about God. I deal with earthly things.

  11. The human person and his relationship with the state are about as earthly as one can get. Natural law, the principle of subsidiarity, justice and human dignity and the nature of government and the coercive power are 'material' as well. No comment?

  12. Humans will always find something to coerce them, whether it be the state or God. The rule of law, man's law, which is a mix of God's and state law (there, I mentioned God), will generally set the course right.

  13. And humans will always find someone to coerce, unjustly. That's the nub. Self-government requires human beings who are aware of their own limitations, have an understanding of human nature and accept the need to limit the power of the imperfect state while encouraging the development of the mature and responsible citizen to keep the state in it's place. Socialism offers nothing but the state as a god in it's own right which necessarily feeds on the dependence and gullibility of the 'citizen'. The state becomes an abstraction to the people and the people to the state which has repeatedly shown itself to be capable of anything in the name of it's expansion and self-preservation. Crimes committed in the name of the state are without equal in history. Social statism is a scam which offers no long term benefits to the citizen, only false security in the place of ordered liberty.

  14. TC,

There is a rabidity about your argument that makes it impossible to respond.

  15. If you can't respond, don't respond. Facts are stubborn things.
