  1. Peter Wehner says, "In the early 1980s, the U.S. was engaged in a debate over funding the Contras, a group of Nicaraguan freedom fighters attempting to overthrow the Communist regime of Daniel Ortega. Mr. Biden was a leading opponent of President Ronald Reagan's efforts to fund the Contras."

Astonishingly, Wehner cites this as though this was a mistake on the part of Biden!

For those of weak memories, this was the basis of the famous Iran - Contra scandal that almost got Reagan impeached, and from which he barely escaped, by virtue of his Alzheimers-affected memory. Oliver North was convicted and others were implicated. This disgrace was one of the low points of the Reagan era.

  2. Mr. Henrie-

It all depends on one's point of view. If one believes that Nicaraguan Marxists were OK in power while acting as proxies for a decrepit yet violent regime in Russia then yes, it was a low point. If one considers that the Boleyn Ammendment was unconstitutional and the motivation behind Reagan's maneuvers was correct than the Iran/Contra controversy was, in fact, pure over-reaching bunk on the part of a congress run by some of the most retrograde, intellectual dim-wits ever to hold power. You have your opinion and I have mine.
