Certainty Clears the Mind
The Wall Street Journal reports that, “Obama said new government rules on fuel efficiency will give auto makers “clear certainty” at a time when their business is enduring a “historic crisis.” That brings to mind the aphorism attributed to Winston Churchill: “Depend upon it, sir. The clear and certain knowledge that a man is about to be hanged wonderfully concentrates his mind.”
With GM. Chrysler, and Ford already in financial difficulty, if not at financial death’s door, the added cost burden of producing “green” automobiles that very few people want to buy sounds uncomfortably like the death knell.
