It’s OK for liberals to be insensitive, divisive, and hateful. But heaven help the conservative who makes the tiniest move in that direction.

Professor of Anti-Religious Studies Backs Down
A public furor erupted recently after a professor at the University of Kansas started a new course called “Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and Other Religious Mythologies,” that was slated to begin in the spring of 2006. The uproar ensued when the professor, Paul Mirecki, emailed a highly offensive letter to the members of a student atheist group that mocked fundamentalist Christians (or anyone who believed in Creationism or ID) and said his new course in the “mythology” of Creationism and Intelligent Design would be a “nice slap in their big fat face.”
Apparently, proponents of Creationism and Intelligent Design took offense to his malicious verbiage and the complaints poured in. After his obviously hostile attack on scientific people of faith, there was such an outcry from the objects of his derision that the course was withdrawn and Mirecki apologized for his poor judgment. “I made a mistake in not leading by example, in this student organization e-mail forum, the importance of discussing differing viewpoints in a civil and respectful manner,” he stated. KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway characterized Mirecki’s comments as being “repugnant and vile;” “it misrepresents everything the university is to stand for”.
Mita commented, “Professor Mirecki holds a Ph.D. in Theology and is a professing atheist. He is not only the chair of religious studies at KU, but also holds the position of faculty advisor for the student group SOMA (Society of Open-Minded Atheists and Agnostics). It seems to me he was more of an indoctrinator than an advisor.
“More and more professors of academia are rabid professors of atheism, and they often shamelessly use their positions as a pulpit for their “religion” of humanism.
“This is just one that was exposed for his foolishness and insensitivity.”
Shortly after receiving Mita’s message, I found a related posting on The Intellectual Conservative website, Open-Minded Intolerance, by Rudy Takala, which gives more details about this incident, as well as Mr. Takala’s personal experiences in the clutches of the liberal-Progressive priesthood.
