Enduring Ravages Of Inflation

Assessment of the chronological data suggests that one of Obama’s campaign themes this year - income inequality - is a product of liberal-progressivism’s embrace of fiat money inflation.

The Constitution Punches Back

Liberal-progressivism took a solid hit at the hands of the Supreme Court.  Discriminatory school admission policies are not required by the Constitution.

Reconsidering Ethanol

Even some environmentalists are beginning to acknowledge that, with respect to “green” fuels, there is no free lunch.  Damaging collateral effects of ethanol production, it’s now clear, outweigh the touted benefits.  Other “green” fuels remain uneconomic.

Strangling Regulation

I have frequently alluded to strangling regulation as a major reason for the glacially slow recovery from the Great Recession of 2001-08, noting that it is a recapitulation of Franklin Roosevelt’s socialistic New Deal tactics.  During the dreary days of the 1930s Depression, everybody was continually being hammered with huge tax increases, and businesses were continually threatened with punitive regulations, along with governmental support for Spanish-style syndicalist, industrial labor unions and nationalization of agriculture.

Obama has bullheadedly rampaged along that same path, with the same result: businesses have feared to invest in new or expanded production, not knowing what future costs and restrictions may be.

The Fruit Of Obama’s Racemongering

A Glimpse into the Political Future
Jonathan Chait’s advance apologia for the Democrats’ defeat in November

Democratic politicians have been the great beneficiaries of the racially charged patronage programs spun off by the Great Society—but the supposed “leg-up” offered to blacks has produced, despite trillions in expenditures, a relatively stable poverty rate over the past 50 years, with African-Americans disproportionately present among the poor. Chait never considers the possibility that some who oppose Obama are tired of paying for an ongoing failure. They’re also tired of liberals’ inability to come to grips with it.

More Liberal-Progressive Thought Control

Social scientists too often today are identified with suppression of traditional scientific pursuit of truth via unconstrained consideration of all evidence. Some have become, instead, political propagandists for Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s unfounded theories of human nature and of Karl Marx’s philosophy of materialistic determinism.

This is hardly surprising, given the origin of the concept of social sciences by the French Encyclopedists in the period leading into the 1789 French Revolution, out of which came the materialistic religion of socialism.

For an account that illustrates the close-mindedness of today’s so-called social scientists, read Welcome to the Jungle.
