Tolerance vs. Acceptance

John Lawrence displays his usual level-headed and eminently sensible capacities in his post of Tuesday, March 21, 2006, titled PAT ROBERTSON: A READER’S COMMENTS, which should be read along with the immediately preceding post of Monday, March 20, 2006, titled “Pat Robertson: Extreme Right Winger?”

He makes a distinction between acceptance and religious tolerance, as John Locke defined it in the 17th century.  It was Locke’s version, by the way, that was a founding principle of the United States.

Liberalism’s definition of tolerance means that anything goes, except, of course, questioning liberalism’s version of socialism.  Anyone objecting to the latter is guilty of divisive ‘hate speech.’
