The View From 1776

A Wall Street Journal article titled Obama Courts Christian Voters in Kentucky reports:

"My faith teaches me that I can sit in church and pray all I want, but I won’t be fulfilling God’s will unless I go out and do the Lord’s work,” reads an Obama pamphlet distributed across Kentucky. On the cover, a version of which appeared before the South Carolina race, Sen. Obama stands at a church pulpit.

Senator Obama evidently defines the Lord’s work as implementing the atheistic and materialistic machinery of the liberal-progressive-socialist political state, which submerges individual free will.  This is blasphemous presumption.

Jesus Christ described His work very differently: 

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  (Matthew 28:18-20)

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:28-31)
