Separating the Wheat From the Chaff
The fields of nourishing grain have become infested with the weeds of socialism. Reader Mark Van Noy describes the process.
-------------------
Mark Van Noy, responding to my recent posting titled Truth emailed the following commentary:
****************
Interesting, isn’t it, how the teachings of Karl Marx, who died in London in 1883, developed and grew as his apostles entered the senior ranks of academe around the turn of the Twentieth Century? There, they used their position to exploit the ignorance and juvenile reasoning powers of the young and vulnerable. At least as interesting as this is the “pact with the Devil” made by supposed “Christian academics” around the turn of the Twentieth Century. History is rife with examples of disasters brought about through misinterpretation of the Bible by evil men posing as Christian leaders, but few have been as cataclysmic in their effect on mankind as the alliance of these reprobates with the evil apostles of socialism.
The source of strength for morally bereft musings of socialism is found in the ferment of profound ignorance and lack of practical life-experience, liberally lubricated by our human penchant for avoiding the rigors of well-reasoned thought in favor of opinions adopted from those whom we accept as authorities. And, where else are the ignorant and thoughtless more prevalent than among the working poor and gullible children? Children, recently weaned from the family teat and preparing to enter adult life through college, are especially vulnerable to the pseudo-intellectualism of socialist rhetoric spewed by their professors. Hence, the rise of socialism through academia.
However, the USSR did not rely solely on naturally occurring ‘seeds of socialism’ sprouting among bone-headed academics to carry the advance of world socialism. They actively seeded their agents and sycophants in the halls of academia, government bodies, defense laboratories, and other critical institutions, then fertilized them and nurtured them through strategically situated KGB agents. Their effects were often felt and sometimes seen in the embodiment of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who gave our atomic bomb secrets to the Soviets, or other spies who were uncovered during the cold war including Alger Hiss, the Walkers, and Aldrich Ames. The damage that was actually done by these traitors can only be guessed. But the potential damage was inestimable and could easily have ended the lives of literally millions of Americans and caused the destruction of our nation, our system of government, our liberty, and our way of life.
Although some time has passed, the ultimate effect of their treason is yet to be fully known. In each case, their treason served the purpose of advancing the cause of world socialism. Soviet agents and their ideological sycophants, who were stranded after the fall of the Soviet Union, continue to pursue their anti-American activities today and, no longer supervised by their KGB handlers, are becoming even more stridently ideological. Their obscene shouts can be heard from the left during every political campaign and every Supreme Court nomination process. The ire of many leftists is generated by a genuine sense of outrage incubated in their willful ignorance and intellectual malleability. Others are wealthy, well educated, well traveled socialists and promoters of the new world order who know full well the effect of their support for far-left organizations such as the ACLU and MoveOn.org. They may be less personally vocal but are also more calculating and more effective, carefully crafting their actions to achieve international socialism.
The Bolshevik Revolution, itself, originated among students in Russian universities. These were not children of “the proletariat,” they were children of privilege, whose parents were typically wealthy professionals or businessmen. The Bolshevik Revolution was a rebellion against their parents by wealthy, spoiled children. They were the “Red” leaders who recruited ignorant and envious masses to their great lie of “something for nothing." Vladimir Lenin (nee Ulyanov), himself, was the son of a well-to-do Russian civil servant and attended Russia’s Kazan University from which he was ejected for his Marxist political activities against Tsar Alexander. Lenin later finished his studies and became a lawyer. Lenin was a member of the privileged elite, NOT a member of the “proletariat." Ironically, he was an active member of the very “bourgeoisie” that he denounced in his rants and the Bolshevik Revolution had the effect of moving him from being a privileged member of the middle classes (bourgeoisie) to the most privileged member of the upper class; the new royalty. Furthermore, the concept of “noblesse oblige” taught to the royalty murdered by Lenin was not adopted by the new ruling class; the Communist Party leaders. They ruled with an iron hand and had empathy for no one in their infinitely arrogant atheism.
The strength and virulence of the teachings of Marx and Engels were, and are, more enthusiastically adopted and followed by college students encountering these lies in a purely theoretical environment than by union workers whose ignorance is not exacerbated by a profound lack of practical experience. Socialism finds its most active zealots among the ranks of pseudo-intellectual scions of wealth and privilege, rather than among those whom it holds up as the “proletariat." We can see this demonstrated in Marx’s own roots in wealth and privilege. We can also see it today among our most vocal proponents of socialism in the U.S. Congress.
Teddy Kennedy is a potential poster-boy for the ironic intellectual dissonance one encounters when contrasting the wealthy, privileged dilettantes of socialism with their purported goals for the rest of us. However, he is far from alone. We can see it even more dramatically demonstrated, in a purely economic sense, by the flaccid socialist pronouncements of Warren Buffet and the pernicious socialist politics of George Soros, two of the world’s wealthiest men. And, the “limousine liberals” of Hollywood provide vivid examples of socialist hypocrisy by their own morbidly excessive, self-indulgent, elitist private lives contrasted with the wildly schizophrenic character of their public posture as social activists and their support for socialist political causes that demand sacrifice of personal wealth and privilege to “the greater good." Were a “Bolshevik Revolution” to occur in America, Teddy Kennedy, Susan Sarandon, Michael Moore, George Soros, John Corzine, Warren Buffet, et al, would be among the first to be stood before a firing squad for their flagrantly excessive “bourgeois” lifestyles.
Sino suum factum ut ostendo sum verum suum vis. (Allow their actions to reveal the truth of their nature.)
It is clear from observing the actions of our pretend-socialists that they are not interested in socialism for themselves. If they do not desire the “benefits” of socialism for themselves, what then is their motivation for working so diligently to impose it upon the rest of us? Like the Soviet Communist Party apparatchiks, perhaps they desire to use it as a means to an end. I will leave it to your informed imagination to determine what that end might be. However, we can almost certainly agree that if someone exempts himself from a condition that he imposes on someone else, he doesn’t consider it to be a desirable one.
In the case of those who perceive themselves as having nothing, their desire is to get “something for nothing” is understandable and forthright, if dishonest. In the case of those who already have everything that money can buy, the motivation must be otherwise. What is it that wealthy people desire more than money? Power. Some equate money with power. However, in our society we have rigorous checks and balances that prevent any one person or organization from gaining ultimate control.
Our founding fathers were wise men who foresaw the evil nature of those with designs on power and built into our government effective limits on such ambitions. They created the most radical concept that has ever existed in governing the affairs of men; the Bill of Rights. It embodies within our Constitution the overarching principle that certain inalienable individual liberties are the inviolable basis of freedom and, by guaranteeing them to each individual, we ensure them for all. It says that “the greater good” is best served by ensuring “the individual good." This single concept is the true difference between our government and all those that have preceded it or come since its founding. No other government has so successfully established, preserved, and defended individual freedom from the tyranny of the majority.
Yet, there are those among us who, regardless of their wealth or privilege or formal education (some would argue that it is because of their wealth, privilege, and formal education), do not understand the importance of this keystone of freedom, this essence of liberty. We see them regularly creating legislation or ruling from the bench in a manner that violates these essential liberties. They see themselves as wise; wise enough that they can overrule our Bill of Rights with impunity, calling it a “living document” as an excuse for their evil deeds, arguing that our founding fathers had no way of understanding our modern age, thus it is necessary for us to look the other way as they rape the Bill of Rights.
“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” - Romans 1:22
These elitist snobs are embarrassed. They see themselves as “citizens of the world” who are Americans only by unfortunate accident of birth. Peering down their long noses, they see unwashed masses of brutish bumpkins; inelegant relations to be disowned in the company of the sophisticates whom they perceive to populate Europe. They demonize our patriotism, calling it xenophobia and jingoism. They belittle our national pride, calling it chauvinism. They revile our language and culture, calling it racism and ethnocentrism. While firmly entrenched among the ranks of America’s most conspicuous consumers, they are embarrassed by our wealth as a people ... as a nation ... and hold secret fantasies of themselves playing the role of Robin Hood in imposing their brand of “justice" by stealing from their fellow Americans and redistributing our comparatively meager wealth to the “poor peoples of the world."
Having convinced themselves of their inherent superiority and goodness, they believe themselves to be the rightful caretakers of humanity, thus the rightful rulers of humanity, for it is clearly necessary to rule if one is to impose “justice." Since their role as leader or ruler is of overarching importance, they must do whatever is necessary to achieve that end. Hence, they believe that, for them, “the end justifies the means." This is the manner in which they rationalize their evil and corrupt actions to obtain and maintain power in government. They believe that they are the “rightful rulers” and this justifies their actions. It justifies grossly bastardized misinterpretations of the government’s right of eminent domain, because it is necessary to end the concept of private ownership of property if we are to ever impose socialism on America. It justifies “creative” interpretations of the Constitution to change the “right to keep and bear arms” from an individual right to the right of the government. It justifies legislating from the bench to stipulate a right to American citizenship by illegally violating our border and having a baby. It justifies fabricating from whole cloth a gross misinterpretation of our Constitution to create a nonexistent “separation of church and state” that not only doesn’t exist, but was never intended by our founding fathers or the authors of and signatories to the Constitution.
“The end justifies the means” may be the single most dangerous concept to ever corrupt government. It is the motto of every despot to ever enslave, abuse, and slaughter his people. When Adolf Hitler, Joe Stalin, or Saddam Hussein awoke each morning and stumbled into his palace bathroom to brush his teeth, he did not look at himself in the mirror and see an evil man. He saw a hero; savior of his nation. Hitler even had a huge portrait painted of himself in shining armor, sitting astride a white stallion. Yet, we know without doubt that each of these men was or is, in the case of Saddam Hussein, the personification of evil. They, as do our liberal elite socialists, saw themselves as liberators of their peoples who were sacrificing themselves for their country. When Hitler gassed six million Jews, he knew it was wrong on an individual basis, but believed the wrong was justified by serving “the greater good” of Germany in ridding it of “evil Jews." Just as Hitler was wrong for seeking to sacrifice the good of the individual for “the greater good” of the majority, our elitist socialists of today are wrong in seeking to sacrifice the good of the individual American for “the greater good” of the majority, whether the majority of Americans or the majority of the world’s population.
This is the central evil of socialism; it seeks the good of the majority at the expense of the individual. Socialism is the antipathy of our form of government, our nation, our culture, our customs, our language, and our way of life. For this reason, our language, borders, and culture are under attack from the left. For, without destroying these, they can never realize their dream of a new world order of atheistic socialism under their benevolent control.
