Mass demonstrations are the standard liberal method of “arguing” its case to the general public. We can be sure that neither the violent street riots and random property destruction at the recent Mar Del Plata, Argentina, summit conference, nor the ones here and in Europe have been spontaneous affairs. Since the French Revolution, knowing that their theories are arrant nonsense, liberals have been compelled to resort to organized violence or threats of violence to influence public opinion and cow legislators.
-------------------
Unable to argue their case from fact or logic, liberal-socialists here and elsewhere must stir up savage emotions with organized street demonstration, which usually degenerate into physical attacks and property damage.
Even at the personal level in weblogs, for instance, liberals seldom even attempt rational argument. They resort to filthy language in ad hominem attacks. When they do attempt logic, usually all they demonstrate is their abysmal ignorance of history and misunderstanding of how economic systems work in the real world.
Liberal-socialist theories are all, at bottom, economic “ideas,” because liberal-socialism is a purely materialistic religion. Necessarily liberal-socialists’ case must rest on how well or ill they deliver the [material] goods, because their brand of social justice is defined strictly in those terms.
Facts of history, however, present an inconvenient and insurmountable hurdle. Their theories have caused havoc in every society where they have been implemented: in the United States, stagflation in the 1970s with exponential increases in crime, welfare-dependency, illegitimate births, the worst inflation in our history, riots, looting and burning in major cities, and melt-down of public education; in Europe, every socialist nation is falling steadily behind even our partially-socialized society, and France is experiencing its own 1970s-style street riots.
For their mass demonstrations and street violence to be successful, liberal-socialists must count on one of two things: that their audience will be ignorant of history (which is what progressive education is all about), or gullible enough to believe that intellectuals can bring about perfection here on earth. In both cases, liberal-socialists appeal to the greed of their audience by telling them that “the rich” have stolen what is rightfully theirs.
It also helps to have control of the media, as French Revolutionary era socialists like Condorcet recognized. If the general public reads or sees only the socialist propaganda pitch and remains ignorant of countervailing facts, liberal-socialist violence can be projected as spontaneous upwelling of sorrow from the exploited masses. That’s where vermin like movies, TV, and the press play their role.
